Display flicker

So I've got my pc connected to my samsung 55" curved 4kk hdr and when I set hdr on in windows I don't think it's showing hdr unless I'm actively in a game because if I get a notification, like from xbox for getting an achievement, or email or whatever if they haven't been disabled, or if I alt+tab, the screen goes black like switching source. Is there anything I can do to make this stop aside from disabling the HDR? Also, my screenshots are way too bright but I don't care too much about that one right this second.
