Hey everyone,

Here is the system:

CPU: Ryzen 2700 (Cooled with Corsair H100i)

GPU: Radeon RX Vega 64

MOBO: MSI Gaming Plus x470

PSU: EVGA Supernova G3 750W

Storage: ADATA NVME 480 GB, Seasonic 2TB + *New* Seasonic 4TB

I'm a relatively new PC builder and I've reached a point where I'm unsure how to proceed. Last Friday I received a new HDD (see above) in the mail to expand the storage of my build. I was in a slight hurry but I figured I had time to install it. I turned off the PSU and unplugged my machine. I went about installing the HDD in a normal way (I already have the same HDD in the system already). Then after finishing I went to boot it up and everything came on for a second and then quickly turned off with a pop. I smelt a strong burning plastic smell coming from the top of the MOBO. I assumed this was static or something and the MOBO was dead. But after testing my parts in my GFs system I discovered that both the MOBO and the CPU are dead. I've already ordered new parts to replace the MOBO and CPU to get my system up and running again.

I built the system about 1 1/2 years ago (~Black Friday 2018) and I have only overclocked the CPU a couple times and they were pretty modest and stable (<4GHz). I also didn't have an overclock on my system when it broke. My real question because I haven't ever gone through this is: Am I going to be able to get any compensation for these parts? I realise I voided my warranty when I overclocked but the overclock was by no means the reason this happened. Does anyone have experience with these companies (MSI and AMD) and how receptive would they be of my claims.

I'm truly in the dark as to how to proceed or even if any of this is worth my time...

Please LTT troubleshooting forum, your my only hope...

There is your answer.

NO, they will not honour the warranty

The motherboard as well? Thanks for your extra helpful response...

Unless the companies are being generous, running a computer part out of spec will void any and all warranties.

I mean, you are welcome to try of course, but I wouldn't hold my breath
