Overclocking Help

So I've been wanting to overclock my CPU lately and I've been looking around the place for some basic tutorials and things like that, but don't really know what's what. Currently I'm running stock speeds on an 8700K, would it even be beneficial for me to overclock it to see an improvement in gaming? Or would I need to overclock the graphics card as well? Like I mentioned, I'm running an 8700K on an MSI Gaming Pro Carbon MB with a Kraken x62 cooler on it, so I feel like I have plenty of room to overclock (minus the not very decent airflow in the NZXT s340 case I'm using). I don't really want to mess around with the graphics card though as it's a pretty basic air cooled 2080. If you guys know of any good guides or videos that would be greatly appreciated.

gonna spend all that extra money on a K SKU CPU and Z series motherboard for the sole feature of overclocking, might as well.

 

for a basic overclock, all you should really concern yourself with is core voltage and frequency. if you want to start super basic, try to get 4.6 all core at 1.25 volts, and go from there.

Set All core to 50x

Set v-core to 1.35v (give or take for stability)

Enable X.M.P in the bios if you havent already

Set an all core multiplier of 50. (CPU RATIO)

CPU ratio offset when running AVX: 0

CPU ratio mode:fixed mode

CPU ratio apply mode: all core

Set a manual vcore within: 1.25 - 1.35v (if you crash you will need more) start at 1.32

Find the Load line calibration settings under DigitALL power and increase the Load line calibration control level to 5.

Well, since both of you guys mentioned to set the core multiplier to 50, I guess I'll start there and see what happens, thanks!

Can’t say there would be a benefit not knowing what you do with it. 
I overclock mine simply for how high the usage is and should have got amd stuff. 
I hope it helps compared to running at stock. 
I did the same as mentioned. I let the board auto overclock to see where it would go then did a manual of 50x and 1.35.

Almost every 8700k can hit 4.9GHz at 1.35 volts.

 

This overclock is on the high end, so only do that if youre confident in your cooling.

Also a lot of CPUs need less than that voltage, its just a good starting off point.

And yes, even if you did not overclock your 2080 you will see quite a big difference in 1080p gaming in esport games
