Hi guys new poster. I'm at a bit of a loss. My laptop seems to randomly crash. Doesn't matter what I'm doing it will crash to a black screen, the fans will fire up loudly, and proceed to beep at me until it shuts it self down. I'm not that great with computers so I'm at a loss.

Laptop: Clevo P370EM

OS: Windows 10 64-bit (fresh install)

BIOS: american megatrends 4.6.5

CPU: Intel i7-3630QM

Ram: 8GB

GPU: GeForce GTX 670M

Power: Currently plugged into the wall as the battery no longer holds a charge

To add as much info as I can. It will crash when idle one day, next day can run for 3 hours with no problems, next day crash 20 minutes in.

I notice the battery is old enough it no longer holds a charge.  How old is this laptop?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

It will be about 7-8 years now. As for the battery it’s not in the laptop itself anymore. Once it started to crap out I removed it.

on top of that I’m running memtest to take a look at the ram. It’s the last thing I can think of.

Hey There!

Seems like you've got some bad RAM.

I will try to send you on this post a link for your Lenovo Clevo.

P.S

You should Upgrafe from that Clunky Harddrive to a Light and Speedy SSD:

My suspicion is Tim. The stuff only lasts for so long but with an 8 year old laptop it could be all kinds of things.  Stuff wears out.

I'm starting to think that. If it is just wear and tear I'm hoping to find out what it is so that I can hopefully replace it. My laptop actually holds a lot of sentimental value so I'm willing to put in time and most likely money to keeping it usable.

If you could Also Provide Model Numbers and Serial Numbers.

I'm assuming you want the numbers for the Ram? If so

Samsung is the brand and the model number is:M471B5273DH0-CK0 1232

If you meant the laptop:

Model #: P370EM

Serial #:NKP370EM0002K00558

I appreciate all the help.

Thanks, I'll take a look. As if it is the Ram like your suggesting upgrading the size is probably a smart decision based on price.

Hey I was having the exact same problems with my Sager Clevo P370em running windows 10. I was getting random shutdowns for no particular reason. It was super frustrating, because I tried just about everything and nothing worked. It actually caused my OS to become corrupted. Had to wipe and reinstall the OS. My problem turned out to be the RAM. Get yourself a memory stress tester like MemTest86. Mine would crash every time I ran that.

Replacing the RAM corrected the problem right away. If that's also your problem, be aware that there are RAM slots on both sides of your motherboard. The primary 2 are in the back, but if you've got RAM in the front be very careful removing they keyboard. They ribbon cable is real finicky to get seated back correctly.

I had 16gb of Samsung (4x4gb) DDR3 1600 PC3 - 12800s. Timing 11-11-11-28. (model # M471B5273CH0-CK0)

Replaced with 32gb of G.Skill (4x8gb) DDR3 1600 PC3 - 12800s. Timing 9-9-9-28. (model # F3-1600C9D-16GRSL)

Good luck buddy!
