Well if cloning works then I'll give it a try. Can't be bothered waiting to download 400GB of backup.

Cloning works.

Acronis is a good cloning and backup software that comes free with many different drives you might purchase. Typically the drive will list the software if it comes with it. You can also purchase the software. https://www.acronis.com/en-us/articles/cloning-software/

Paragon Drive Manager is one I have used extensively in the past, and it has always worked great for me, but it's not free. https://www.paragon-software.com/us/home/hdm-windows/#

I've been looking into upgrading my SSD from a 512gb to a 1TB drive (its an NVMe ssd). Problem is, said SSD is where I installed windows and is being used as the main drive/boot drive (C:). How would I go about upgrading it? Does cloning the data from said drive into the new drive and installing it work, and if so, how?

they are some option

you can make yourself a Windows account, strip the licence from your maschine, backup your data and install it fresh

or you clone it with a 3party software (dont know a good one)

or like i did, you just disalble your boot drive to boot in bios, install win 10 fresh on a other ssd, the good thing here you have all data and lincences but i likely cause trouble

Thanks for the clarification!

Oh yeah forgot to ask, how do you clone one drive to the other? Is there a M.2 to USB adapter or something?

Yup, I own this one, and it works great for me. https://www.amazon.com/SSK-Aluminum-Enclosure-Adapter-External/dp/B07MNFH1PX/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=NVMe+m.s+to+USB&qid=1581644499&sr=8-3

You could also just have both drives installed in the system when you clone your old Boot drive to your new drive.

I'm not sure if Acronis supports this feature, but Paragon allows you to create a bootable USB flash drive that has a copy of the Paragon software installed. This means you can boot to the paragon flash drive and clone one SSD to the other when both are installed without having to deal with one drive running the OS at the time.
