soo im looking through the market right now

searching for a notebook replacement for my old work notebook

and while im not doing much on it besides coding

i would like the ability to us the kinect 3d scanner i rigged up myself

problem is it need a gpu the better the gpu the more detailed my scan is gonna be

that being said i still want a slim and silent if not passive notebook?

is there such a thing? or what would be best equivalent thats possible?

right now im looking at the MSI Prestige 15 with the 1080p screen and around there that would be my budget as well

Put it this way my MacBook Air has a Y series CPU (ultra low power) and it sounds like a jet engine in iMovie and it hot. For coding I would say get a MacBook but unless you’re going for the £2400 16” pro or a cheaper preowned 15” pro you’re not getting a dedicated GPU.

dude. i do real programming. no arts and crafts. ill stick with windows thank you very much. :D

no really i do need to stay on the windows side of things for work

If you do real programming you’d be on Linux... then Mac then Windows.

alright lets not get into this now. in the automotive industry theres no macs and few linux use. so i do need a windows machine also how are you recommending a macbook for the gpu ? all they do is amd and those arent as good as the nvidia stuff generaly and apple especially isnt as good price wise.

so lets not make this a mac vs. pc thing. i just need a windows machine that slim, silent and has some form of usable power behind it. im looking for the best compromise between those but im not gonna convince my boss that with the industry being what it is that im gonna need a macbook for literally double the price, not even mentioning that im not reworking my workflow so it works on mac. i got all my tools set up the most efficient way for me and im not even sure all of it will support mac ...its just  a non-starter. theres no mac for me

also the macbook air specifically doesnt even have a dedicated gpu soo....what your point exactly?

Have you looked at the surface line of laptops? They're reasonably slim, well built, dunno how they are on the GPU front though.

only integrated graphics and overpriced. after getting the surface pro 3 used as a home server for the cheap 4200U i think ill stay away from surface in general.

Razer laptops have the GPU grunt for anything you wanna do but that comes with the razer tax with the 15" model starting around 1500 and the 13" starting at 1100 with an iGPU and 1250 with a MX150. Although you can get the 2017 Blade pro (17") for 1300 with a quad core HT i7, GTX 1080 and 32GB of RAM

razer is way too gamery and again overprized. from your suggestions so far i think you tend to overpay in general.

ohh and this --v

although the battery life is horrendous at 5 hours.

what do you think of the msi prestige 15 ? no matter how i tip the scales i always end up with that one somehow.
