Hey guys,

i try to build a HTPC, for Netflix and Blueray, in a Case of a PS2.

I saw that someone have try it in the forum, but didn't finish. The Problem is, because of the Blueray-Drive, i can't fit an Micro-ITX. The Base of the PS2 has only room for 15,2cm x 26,2cm.

Does anyone here can help me out with some knowledge about Mini-STX and Micro Boards (these ones with soldered CPUs)?

It needs to have the power to play Blueray. I don't think i need an GPU, so can use the onboard.

I just found the possibility to buy an Asrock Deskmini A300, a CPU, Cooler, m2, RAM and would coast me round about 430€.

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 3 2200g
Cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Silvretta
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2800 MhZ

Other possibility I found is, with an Mini STX board. 390€

Specs:
Board: Asus H110S2 (Only Socket 1151)
CPU: Intel i5 6500/6600k
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2800 MhZ
Power: 300 Watt be quiet! TFX Power 2

Has anyone other solutions? Or knowledge about these components? Any feedback to change something to an better build, maybe with a micro board?

It is a “bang for buck” Build, so would love to spend as low as possible, but still having a smooth system.

Thank you.

Technically you could get an intel nuc, take it out of it's case and then put that in the ps2 case. That would be one of the smallest possible options.

going the "mini pc" (intel nuc, gigabyte brix, etc.) way is defenately going to be the easiest.

there's loads of mini development boards out there, but they all come with their own unique issues, primary among many being availability.

one idea that *may* work is a "lattepanda" board, it's basicly a raspberry pi with an intel mobile chip instead of an ARM chip.

they're small enough and decently powerful, just I/O is gonna be a minor headache.

also, bang for buck and retrofitting odd enclosures dont match, trust me and my experience in stupid projects on that...

i had already seen the LattePanda Alpha 8G/64GB, but it coast already 350€.

What i forget to mention, i loved to add WiFi AC (i found an m2 for it) and i need onboard USB3.0 to replace the front USB...

And with the lattepanda Alpha or an NUC i don't know if i can add an Blueray-Drive...

What perfomance do you think i should aim for, specally considering the Blueray-Drive?

actually i think i go to my own "scapyard wars" and search for a good NUC or other.

Nuc type would be best. I'm using a Nuc sort of base for my pfsense box and I put a 6 core i5 with 16gb RAM and a sata SSD in it. Could use an nvme drive and use the SATA port for a Blu ray drive
