So as of right now, I have an i5 7600K quad-core and havin issues with bottlenecking. Cant figure out the issue whatsoever so I'm sayin eff it, I'm getting a new set up.

I'm just trying to make sure I dont get burned again by pickin crap parts. Here are the things I am okay with replacing:

ASRock Z270 Extreme 4 Intel Motherboard

Intel i5 7600K Kaby Lake quade core 3.8GHz processor

IF NEEDED:

G.Skill Ripjaws 16 GB RAM DDR4

I'm open to anything, really... I'm fed up with Intel to be honest.

In case yall were curious, I'm using a GTX 1080 Duke for GPU.

Any thing will help! Thanks!

If you are sick of intel you could always get an AMD 3600 and b450 board for not much money.  Then you can add an m.2 NVMe drive which will really feel like a huge improvement.

It's not that I'm over intel, but if something is similiar in price but a bigger improvement, I'm cool with switching over.

But I have no idea what an m.2 NVMe drive is. never heard of anything like that.

M.2 drives can have much higher transfer speeds than a regular sata ssd. But if you already have a normal sata ssd don't bother. The performance gains you get don't matter for gaming and general work only for certain usecases.

As stu_bear suggested a ryzen 3600 + b450 would be a great upgrade performance and cost wise.

I'll definitely look at those. Appreciate it guys! I'll keep this post open just in case others come up with good suggestions.

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $189.99 @ Amazon
Motherboard MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard $114.99 @ Amazon
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total $304.98

Here are the two parts I suggest. Upgrading from mid-range ddr4 to high-end isn't worth the performance difference. I would suggest getting a 500gb m.2 ssd for around $80 to increase boot times, but it does not really effect performance either. (its just you have to have patience)

I would also OC your 2400mhz RAM to at least 2666mhz though. It could give you a decent performance gain.

Specs

Ryzen 7 3700x | X570 Aorus Pro Wifi | 32GB (16x2) 16-16-16-36 G.Skill Trident Z RGB | MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 2080ti

ryzen needs 3600mhz to achieve best results. ryzen cares a lot about ram speeds.

In my opinion, it isn't worth it getting 3600 CL 16-18-18-38 RAM for $90  because at that rate you would be spending $90 for an extra ~10% performance.

I really appreciate all you guys helping me out, especially linking the hardware for me. You guys are killer!

I also appreciate you not encouraging me to get the next best everything, stating I dont NEED the new RAM. Grateful, really.

One more question... I've had more issues picking out a case than I have anything else...

I wanna try and get a decent mid-tower with vertical GPU capabilities. Every one that I've found has very mixed reviews and I'm confused on how EVERYONE can either love it or hate it. Frustrating beyond all belief.

https://www.amazon.com/NZXT-H510i-Vertical-Integrated-Water-Cooling/dp/B07TD9S3HZ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=nzxt+vertical+gpu+case&qid=1579727047&s=electronics&sr=1-1

this is what I've found that I really like.
The vertical GPU seems to not need a riser card cause you can just screw it in vertically... am I correct??
