Hey LTT forum   again I'm trying to figure out the root cause of my random system lock ups. Long story short when doing simple tasks, such as, browsing the web and viewing a youtube video windows will lock up audio will stutter, video playback will stop, and my stop will become unresponsive. No BSOD has ever occured it just simply stops responding all together. I've noticed that when the network is under heavy load when all my brothers, and dad are on the network, and then I start to playback a video. A few minutes in the system will lock up. It seems almost network related. However, how can a network card cause a system to lock up?

MOBO: Asus P8Z77-V LK

CPU: i5 3570k (at stock)

RAM: G. Skill (2x 4gb) dimms running at 2133mhz (11-11-11-30-2T) 1.6V X.M.P. has been enabled http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231519

Cooler: PH-TC12DX

SSD: Samsung 840 series 120gb

Network Card: Rosewill network card (https://www.rosewill.com/products/1849/ProductDetail_Overview.htm)

PSU: Corsair 500watt semi-modular builder series http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139050

OS: Windows 7 home premius 64bit edition.

Case: Corsair 230T

optical drive: some asus 24x speed dvd/cd burner combo thingermagig

So far, I've tried these troubleshooting steps.

-gettting a powerline network adapter to see if it's the network causing the issue (did not uninstall my previous card, or drivers while testing this theory)

-reseating my cpu on the motherboard, and making sure it gets good contact with the socket.

-re-installing windows 7 home premium with a new set of drivers

-unplugging my other hard drive which had been used as a games drive to see if it had bad sectors causing a lock up

-RMAing my cpu (received a brand new one)

-RMAing my motherboard, and getting a better one

-Stress testing briefly (prime 95 for 2.5 hours)(no lockups occured)

-Memtest86 for 8 hours with both dimms installed ( no errors)

-Have changed graphics card to a gtx 760 from asus (2gb edition)

-New case (if that matters)

-no heat issues running at stock speeds with an aftermarket heatsink, it's a phanteks model (forgot the exact #) (58 degrees celsius max temps on hottest core) temps were 58-58-57-56 across the 4 cores.

I'm racking my brain as to what the issue is(frustration  )!... Should I give it to a local computer shop, so they can better diagnose the issue?

What other steps can I do in order to test my system? I don't have a PSU tester, nor do I know anything alot about power supplies.

Advice is very much appreciated, thanks :)

First, have you tried running the system without the Rosewill NIC? Try using the onboard ethernet port.

If it still locks up, I recommend you do a full cleanup (temp files, registry cleaner, disk defrag ect.)

To my knowledge the network itself should not be able to lock up your PC unless a virus has passed through it. Make sure you go through a thorough virus scan.

Windows will usually stutter if the CPU/GPU is peaking. Might want to keep an eye on the usage on those components as well as checking background programs which could be causing it.

Did a clean install of windows, so there shouldn't be a virus on my computer already; however, I will try two thorough virus scans. Windows has been on my pc for 2 days, and I'll check into that. Like I said once the network gets hit hard and I'm on it running data intensive programs that require a lot of bandwidth my computer will thereby lock up and a restart is required. I'm going to uninstall my rosewill wireless adapter an uninstall the drivers, as well as, run ccleaner for registry values left behind. Thanks for the input I don't believe it's my ram, or CPU because they're brand new. And I had the ram tested at my local computer shop they said its okay.

Another thing that may provide a hint is when I'm closer to the router my computer won't lock up. This is also running my wireless nic from rosewill.
