ThreadRipper 3rd gen + windows server 2019 compatibility

Hello guys,

So i am thinking of buying a 3rd gen ThreadRipper in order to run a Rip software for our company, main thing is, it requires windows server 2019.

Do any of you have any experience with 3rd gen trx40 and know if windows server is compatible or not?

what exactly makes you think it wouldn't be? Windows Server 2019 is just windows 10 with some added/changed features. It's not made specifically for enterprise level CPU's like Xeon's and EPIC's. Server 2019 runs on pretty much anything x86-64.

I guess that's why, There's no direct mention of Win Server 2019. Still, that doesn't mean it won't work (like you said).

Purify your Windows 10/11, don't give Microsoft anything that you don't want to share.

Because i have de-virtualized 1 windows server 2012 VM into a ryzen 3700x and the first thing windows told me after boot was a massive flash screen saying it was not compatible with the hardware. So in order for me to make certain components work i needed to alter drivers etc and manualy inserted them wich was a super pain and made me uneasy with the stability of the system. With this said, i am afraid that there might be problemes with the processor squeduling threads etc.... wich makes the system very cluncky and invalidates the hole point of investing on a giant machine like a threadripper if i am not going to take full advantage of it.

non-issue. the whole lineup of third gen threadripper has uniform memmory access unlike 2nd gen where some had to fetch through another CCD.

i dont see it not running on server 2019. and checking other forum posts it appears to be no mention of it not being compatible.

There's never mention of server editions of windows i think. The TR2950x doesn't have it either and i have 1 running on server 2019.

Has anyone tried instaling windows server 2019 on a 3rd gen trx40? I would like to hear from someones perssonal experience instead of just assuming....

a 3rd gen TR can run on windows 10. So it can run server 2019. i give you my 100% guarantee on that. For drivers you can just use the win10 ones. Drivers work the same on server editions as the OS they're based on.

Besides you can download server 2019 for free on the microsoft website and try it for 30 days (or is it 90? more?). Instead of asking, if you have the TR running, just try it. Not costing you anything, except time.

i dont have it still....but i am deciding what to buy! I need windows 2019 standard that is a fact....just dont whant to buy hardware that wont run the software.

My 3970X build is sitting rather idle while I wait for custom loop parts. I can toss server 2019 on there and test stuff out for you if you want.

Yeah, I could imagine it's a rather limited use case.

Alright. I will toss a spare drive in there and install server 2019 and see if all the drivers take.
