GPU usage 100% at idle

Task Manager shows my GPUs "3D" usage spiking to 100% randomly. Sometimes the spikes start on boot, sometimes later on while using the system. These spikes cause the system to freeze. New system, bought around Christmas, built by a third party. Has had these issues since day one.

 

Spec:

 

Z390 UD (BIOS version: F10a)
i5-9600k "@ 3.70GHz" (but BIOS menu says its 4301.08MHz, I don't know if that means it's overclocked, nor how to set clock to stock)
RTX 2070
4x8GB Corsair 2133MHz
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB M2 SSD
CoolerMaster MWE600 230V PSU

Windows 10 Home 64-bit

I would check it using something more reliable, msi afterburner maybe or HWinfo .

I'd uninstall all graphic drivers with ddu and use windows update to reinstall the intel hd graphics driver. And if this 3rd party is a company that assembled it for you just ask them if they can provide a solution.

If you check your Task Manager, under the Processes tab, you have a column called "GPU". From there you can see which processes consume your GPU.

Sorry for the crud drawing, but (1) shows you the CPU name that the CPU returns to the system which OS gets. That is why you have "(R)" and "(TM)" because Intel lawyers...

 

(2) shows you the current CPU speed. This one should fluctuate all the time and peek to around your overclock. You can also next to it, "Base Speed", that is the actual max speed of your CPU reported by the CPU. In my case, 2.79GHz and Intel decided to round the number on the box to 2.80MHz. That is normal if it off like mine. My system is overclocked to 2.90GHz (yay, 100MHz more... 'cause I was unlucky and got a garbage chip that can't do shit). In my case, the Base speed is still reported as 2.79GHz, that is fine (that is probably because my system is BIOS based due to the age (UEFI did not exists back then), and things are limited), you can see from the actual speed, it is 2.88GHz, if I push the system it will peek 2.9GHz on the speed. If I use other programs that uses other means to find out the actual CPU clock, it will get 2.9GHz.

theBlueMoa Did you ever happen to figure out the issue? I am currently running into the same problem. I also have the 2070 and I assume I will have to send it back for repair/replacement. Any feedback would sincerely be appreciated. Thank you!
