Hello guys,

Im looking to upgrade my aio to have a external gpu via a pcie riser/extender using either m.2 or a pci port (I know risky) .
This is due to the fact I have very limited cash at the moment and want to get back into pc gaming, i have owed various high end rigs in the past, but simply not enough cash to build an entire rig at this point,

I know ill run into various problems such as bottlenecking (especially if i use the old pci interface) but still roughly 75% of the gpu will still be utilized, as well as the act ill have to unplug any existing components such as wifi cards, this is not a problem for me as i use ethernet anyway. as well as needing to find power for the card im open to suggestions on how to do that xD
This is the board i have : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Inspiron-23-5348-AIO-Intel-Motherboard-s115X-IPPLP-RH-TH-XHYJF-/151827014476
I have a i3 4170 and 8gb ram also. What are my options with the motherboard, it says in the manual there is a m.2 port but yet to find it. If you spot one let me know because I know m.2 is just as fast as thunderbolt.

I Figure all in I can get the parts on the cheap for 150 quid tops accounting for a ssd the riser and a 1050ti and hoping the upgrades will make this pc be able to run fluently on games.

If somebody could provide their insight on this that would be awesome,
thanks team.

I'd say that looks like a power plug

Honestly I have little idea what this plug really is but it looks like it could be a standard CPU power plug? You should check and see if there's any other better angles to look at.

I couldn't find it, however

there are adapters that convert this WiFi slot PCIe, so if you googled around  you could find one of those and buy it, I don't recall them being cheap tho

This is the closest I could find, unfortunately. Looks to be an NGFF slot

https://www.amazon.com/EXPLOMOS-NGFF-Adapter-Power-Cable/dp/B074Z5YKXJ

Going off of this imgur guide, it looks like you can get an extender that widens the PCIe plug and allows for a full PCIe slot for a 1050TI

Here's that same riser

Yeah SPOT ON man thanks a lot, deffo an option, Take a look at this. what do you think?

https://www.banggood.com/NGFF-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-p-1009978.html?cur_warehouse=CN

that's a complete kit, one LTT used in one of his videos (I think) but didn't go ahead with it bc most people use wifi etc. but as mentioned earlier this isn't a problem for me.

He got pretty awesome results too, it outperformed most gpu boxes on the market proving to be faster than thunderbolt.

ofc I would need a old psu for this option but possibly the easiest way to go about this.

That's a different key from the looks of it, I don't think it would work here, see the picture i posted

Hi im converting my AIO into a gaming maching (Not reccomended i know lol, just very budget restricted for this build)

Was wondering what you guys think of this NGFF soloution?

This is my motherboard -  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Inspiron-23-5348-AIO-Intel-Motherboard-s115X-IPPLP-RH-TH-XHYJF-/151827014476

This is the solution - https://www.banggood.com/NGFF-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-p-1009978.html?cur_warehouse=CN

This is something that I read has been around for some time and is lacking support but is meant to work rather well, I mean how hard can it be to set up?

What do you guys think?

There does not seem to be a PCIe m.2 slot on this board.

There are lots of variants of NGFF keying. Typically those meant for wifi cards do not have PCIe connections.

Need to make sure of what's on both devices.

Yeah I see, if I remove the wifi card that's in the slot this will tell me what keying my board uses I suppose? also if its the wrong keying could I use an adapter there seems to be a few on the market, this is turning out to be a headache xD!

You'll need to count pins and see what key it is yes. No adapters, different keys = different signals.

https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3

But then the Chinese thing doesn't even say what it needs, and what's on the photo looks non-standard, so...

OK, video shows it's A+E key, so it might be OK, but you must really check your mobo becasue B tends to be more common.

Both A and E only have a PCIe x2 link, so anything beyond entry level GPU won't be worth it.

Thanks dude nice spot,

What would you class as a entry level gpu?

Like a low end gaming card such as a 750ti/950ti/1030 etc?

Maybe even a r9 390?

probably better off just looking for a used prebuilt and GPU instead of going through all that.
