So I was helping @Keal from our forum with his build after few problems he had with mobo before. Short story, pc is working now but there is some weird issue which I can’t think of possible fix solution.
When ethernet cable is connected to the mobo there is vga light on the mobo light up and system is not booting, as soon as the cable is removed the pc boots.
Anyone have some idea of fixing that??

could be worse.

in an attempt to be helpful:

It sounds like the machine is looking for a monitor on the ethernet.  If the ethernet is a pcie card it could be a Low level software thing.  My move would be to reflash the bios, but that’s probably already been done.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Nah it wasn’t been done yet. And the ethernet port is on mobo not pcie card.

It’s possible the bios thinks the ethernet is the monitor for some reason. No cable in the ethernet port often turns it off so bios skips on by.

Yea, he should try that. Maybe the cable is shorted or damaged one end or the other.

I’ll pass the msg to him to try it

The only thing that came to my head was to plug the ethernet cable in unpowered.  Just hanging free.  Very limited help though because if it does work anyway it says nothing because the card may only activate if it senses activity or it may only activate if plugging it in at both ends crates a short.  I don’t know enough about how ethernet cards detect things.  If it failed with an unpowered cable though it would mean the ethernet on the mobo is in play somehow.  If I knew more about the peculiarities of ethernet I might be able to tell you more.  I think I knew this once but have forgotten it.  Part of my brain wants to say if you put a connector on the other end of the cable even if it’s just an extension adaptor it might work. Maybe into an unplugged router or something.  I don’t trust the fuzzy side of my brain though. It gets things wrong a lot.

Ooh another thing came into my head: just reflash the bios.  Might cause entirely different problems though.

You think it’ll be easier to deal with different problems than this?? Sounds like good idea tbh ?
