Video capture program that has 'shadow recording' feature

I've been using nVIDIA's Shadowplay ever since its launch, since I never wanted to stress my CPU while playing the game, and performance drop on GPU end was single digit % (according to my average FPS calculations). Now that I have 4960X, the CPU limitation is basically null and I am looking to go back to other regular video capture softwares, but I am absolutely in love with 'shadow recording' feature provided by nVIDIA's Shadowplay.

So, does anyone know if dxtory or other programs support something in-line with this type of feature?

Only thing I know of is using an Elgato, which is a terrible thing to do to a computer that has high end specs. I'd just say that you should record with something like Dxtory and  throw out footage that's useless?

If I recall, none of the software options have something like that. One of the Avermedia capture cards has a similar feature, but I forget which one; I also don't think it records 20 mins of past footage. Shadowplay is really the only free solution that does that.

At this point, cost is not that much of an issue (or else I would have never bought 4960X in the first place).

Its a bummer to hear that there is no other feasible solution than to just kinda stick with Shadowplay, or get another new hardware setup with capture card.

All of Avermedia's Live Gamer cards have a H.264 Encoder built into them.

  • 2 weeks later...

EyeTV (Mac) does, Elgato Game Capture HD's software does, and Shadowplay does. Those are the only programs I have ever used or heard of with that feature.

With Dxtory or Fraps you just have to delete non-useful footage and record all the time. I use a 3TB USB 3.0 drive so make sure I have good write speeds and enough space for all the footage, and record with the Lagarith Lossless codec (YV12) to maintain good quality with low file sizes. Hope that helps.
