Corsair H115i replace with TT Floe Riing 280?

Hello guys,

I'm looking for a solution to replace the Corsair H115i with something stronger - because this thing can't cool down my 7900x @ 4.7/4/4GHz when running with AVX-512 or, running After Effects. Is it a good choice to replace it with the TT Floe Riing 280? If it's not, is there any recommendation?

Also, I'm not considering non-AIO cooling (8 memory with cover, I believe any wind cooler will not fit the space - and they are too heavy for the motherboard probably) nor 360mm radiator (Not enough space in the chasis - I've almost got that chasis filled with hard drives and optical drive).

    Thank you guys!

AIOs will have their limits like outlined in the LTT video

With a CPU like that your budget should really account for a robust cooling solution. If it were me I would either delv into custom cooling or a top tier Noctua air cooler. If you're still really set on an AIO I would buy one with the largest rad area that you can fit. Maybe something like the Corsair H150i?

Again, I know there is limit. Please don't waste time trying to convince me getting a 360mm or normal wind cooler as they just don't fit -  the chasis does support 360 but there is no space to install it because I have BD drive. And due to the number of hard drives (5) I put into that chasis there is also no space for custom cooling water pump or water tank. The largest solution I can have is a 280 AIO.

I've also checked NH-D15 and it looks like it WILL block IO-panel side memory, which is not good at all as I have 8x16 memories.

Like @TempestCatto said you're going to have to budget for a different case if a 280 AIO isn't enough. The difference between the h115i and the TT Floe Riing is going to be negligible. Maybe even try increasing internal case air flow with your current AIO.

OK. It's already a full-tower (Corsair 780T) and I have no idea if there is any other full-tower option.

Unless I want to sacrifice the front hdd air intake (and make everything warmer by putting the CPU cooler in the front).

Could you not move the BD drive down to the bottom 5.25" slot to allow for a 360 rad with the fittings at the rear to fit in the top of the case?

Not only throttling. When I'm using AE or running some compiling the CPU temp can easily go up to about 95 to 98 for about 15 to 30 seconds and shutdown.

It is at the bottom 5.25 slot. The problem is if I put the radiator there, there is already no space to install another fan unless you want to put your fan outside the case. Also, I have another AIO cooled GPU - that radiator and fan will block the pipes at the rear. Bottom air intake is blocked by the PSU and hard drive cage so I can't move the GPU AIO cooler to bottom. The only way to do this is move the air intake to top, install the 360 at front and then use the front intake as exhaust, which... honestly I don't know if that works or not as the air intake may be heated by the memory or motherboard already.

woa, thats plenty ^^

i do not think that an other aio is a solution, or even a beefy towercooler tbh

i am afraid there is just one solution if you do not consider a custom loop

  • get a new case, something with decent airflow and either a beefy tower cooler or an 360 aio
  • get a NAS for all your data you keep on your drives

just to make sure.... your cooler is mounted correctly and keeps the cpu cool when not OCd?

Yeah, non-OC means it can only goes up to about 80 degrees but after OC this thing can't hold it at all.

BTW I do have a lot of NAS space (about 30T) here. Those HDDs are just local cache and things that you can't put on a remote drive such as installed programs or so.

thats pretty high already...

considered liquid metaling the cpu? 7900X had shitty TIM iirc

maybe watch the GN vid about that CPUs temps LM compaired to paste... drops about 15°C

Opening the lid and liquid-metal... maybe after I bought a new 10900x, lol.

Thanks everyone for responding this post.

Hey bud my suggestion to you, don't waste your time with a different 280mm CLC cooler, what you have is fine. However even stock 80 degrees is a little toasty, h115i should be able to hold that thing the below 65 degree's stock.

It's not a slouch which leads me to a few questions first. Did it's always perform this poorly? How long have you had it? Have you ever cleaned the radiator fins of dust?

Have you tried lapping both the 7900Xs IHS and the h115i cold plate? The x series chips are notorious for poor IHS flatness be it concave or convex. Waterblock cold plates are not much better and always seem to be convex.

Your best bet would be to de-lid and apply a liquid metal paste, you'll probably see a 15-20 drop overclocking. You can also do direct die cooling with a die frame which would net another 4-8 degrees, so 20-30 degree drop in temps.

First though, clean the rad if it's dirty, check your cpu mount and flatness and reapply new paste. You should be doing a little better than thermal runaway with that cooler.
