so im pretty new to this building pc stuff but i just got a m.2 for christmas so installed it today. when i then preceeded to boot up my pc i was sent straight to bios. found that my ssd with windows on was no longer deteced so couldnt boot. so i then took out my m.2 did nothing else but now all fine agian. pls help.

Well information on the motherboard you have would be helpful but if I had to hazard a guess I suspect when you populate that M.2 slot then one or two of the sata ports are disabled so you could move the sata port to which your other drives are connected away from the first two sata ports.

So the SATA slot with your Windows install is likely in the one that gets disabled. Move the port and you'll be good.
