So this build was not even on the radar and by far the longest build of my life! My wife and I had talked about remodeling out basement as most home owners do from time to time. However what has moved us to action (and by us I mean me, she has been waiting years for me to start the process) was my workstation of 8 or so years started to fail. The workstation was a Phenom II x4 with 16GB of DDR2 and 512 SSD and a very low end graphics card. A Radeon 240 or something and a Gigabyte Ultra Durable board(the one with 2oz of copper in it super heavy board). The system was great until it started to fail. Needless to say failing system mean time for a rebuild. Being a fan of AMD (since the k6-2 days). I spec'd out a new machine based on my computing habits(not a big gamer, more productivity and app development). So the parts list:

2x NZXT 510 cases (one 510i and a plain 510)(more on this later)

Ryzen 5 2600,

Gigabyte B450M DS3H,

16GB T-Force Delta,

XFX Radeon 580.

Thermaltake UX 100

2x Dell U2717D

1x 120mm case fan

1 BT dongle

Now this in itself is not all that inspiring, you know a little RGB here and there. A mainstream system that can do what I need it to do without breaking the bank. Well here is the kicker, none of the parts were ordered a coherent thing. After the proc, ram and mobo where ordered (October 23rd-Nov2nd). I found out that my old system was actually still good, it was an electrical feedback from the cases power button that was messing everything up. Armed with that knowledge, I ordered up 2 NZXT cases.

After putting everything together, I liked the RGB so much on the ram and 510i that I ordered the Thermaltake UX100 (nov 20). Then I decided that I needed matching monitors because a 22 and 24 1080p set up with different color profiles was just not a good thing. So black Friday monitors ordered, BT dongle(Dec 4).

So now my workstation is in pretty good shape, but I notice that my desk now looks like a fat man in a skinny jacket. So I think I need a bigger desk. So in order to do that I have to clean the basement or at least start.(13yrs of computer junk where thrown out during this process). So in looking for a desk I come  across Linus's video on building a desk case for your computer, I then come across MKB and a few other desk making videos on youtube. From there I decided I will build my desk(if Linus can do it so can I). So off to the hardware store to get MDF, 2x2's, 2x3's.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

I thought about getting a single ultrawide, my coworkers and I talked about the pros and cons for days if not weeks. But settling on the 2 vs 1 came down to cost it was just cheaper.

This is a full 34 inch 3440x1440p ultrawide with higher refresh rate (100hz vs 60hz) that features a Samsung panel inside that should be similar to the IPS on these Dells in colour accuracy.

It's an amazing value monitor and arguably would have been a better pick for actually cheaper than what you spent, below there's a full review of it:

Maybe, and arguably a better pick. But at 34" vs 54" the two provide a bit more flexibility. But I do like that 34" and It might be the next big thing and then I can put these two vertical....oh boy!!
