Programming laptop

knavesake

Looking for a portable laptop for a switch in careers. Spent some time coding in college and would now like to use up that savings I've accumulated and learn/relearn programming to pursue it as a career. I have a high end gaming PC so I'm not looking to do any high end gaming on it, but need something capable enough to compile while watching reality TV with the wife and portable enough to not be a burden to take to the local coffee shop. Would like to keep it under $1,000 if possible (eating into the savings again god help me if I have to go back to my former job). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
