A few months ago I upgraded my GPU to a RX 570 from a GTX 950. My CPU then (an currently) is an i5-4430. While initial research suggested that this GPU would be an okay match for my CPU, real world testing shows that my CPU is bottle-necking my GPU. Also, my CPU is falling behind in my other workloads as well, which include casual video editing and 3D rendering. That being said I have deiced to upgrade my CPU/motherboard/memory. Right now I am thinking of a R5 2600 on a B450M board and 16 GB of 3000mhz ram. Would this be a good upgrade and match for the RX 570, or is it worth the extra 70 or so dollars to get the 3600?

Pricing is in USD. See the link for the final build I would have.

For the 570 the 2700 is a perfect match and with a B450 is has never been cheaper to get an decent 6core. However idd recommend to sped the extra $$ and get the 3600 for the improved IPC. That will come in handy some day when upgrading to ab better GPU.

AND: I dont recommend this mobo. Go with a Tomahawk Max or something along those lines, also the PSU needs an upgrade. It seems to be real ... So if I where you and did not have much budget left over idd spend the extra 70 on a better mobo and PSU

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

Is there a specific reason why I should upgrade my PSU? Also, I know I didn't say this before, but  the Tomahawk Max is only ATX as far as I can tell and I need an micro ATX to fit in my case. Do you have any suggestions for a MATX board?

I have money to make more expensive upgrades, I just don't want to spend money on unnecessary things.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Ryzen 7 2700 for workstation use

Ryzen 5 3600 for gaming use

Will the 2700 be good for a combination of gaming and workstation needs?

Sort of. It really boils down to whatever you use the system for the majority of the time.

My Build (5800X3D, RTX 3070)

disclaimer: i probably don't know what I'm talking about but I try to give the best advice I can

I do a little of both. I would say I do more gaming, but I want a machine that will do good in games like Star Wars BF2, Destiny2, Forza, etc, but also something that wont chug when I do decide to be productive.

Hmm. I'm not really sure what to recommend but this GamersNexus video shows the 2700 in the benchmarks as well (okay, it's actually the 2700x but there is only a small difference between the two).

TL;DR The 2700 is roughly 9-11 fps slower in most games but shaves ~0.5 minutes to ~1 minute off workstation load times such as Adobe Photoshop.
