So many years back when i built my pc, i was an absolute god when i picked up a stick of 8gb ram haha. i have 2 slots so i bought one stick incase i wanted to upgrade which is what im looking to do now. ive got a much better pc now with a 5700xt, and a ryzen 5. but now ive still got 8gb, new the COD MW is struggling haha. had a few crashes etc and ram is maxed out. So i want to just grab another stick of the 8gb 2400mhz i already have. a hyperx one. but kingston have changed things and the ram now looks different than mine. i know you shouldnt mix ram etc, but it looks like i literally cant get the same stick, they dont make it anymore. but there is one thats looks similar from hyperx and i presume is just the new heatspreader design? What should i look for to ensure the ram will work together properly and in dual channel?

Thanks everyone!

First pic is what i have, second is what hyperx seem to be selling now. Only place i can find the old one is like ebay and stuff and im kind of sceptical about doing that with warranty etc. just random sellers on there.

at 2400mhz it wont matter at all, just jam anything in there.

Or buy a new 16gb kit at a more ryzen friendly frequency (3200) and sell the 8.

yeah sorry forgot to mention that, that is of course an option! Wasnt trying to spend too much money, but at the same time if im going to end up doing it in the future i may as well do it now haha. ill have a look at price comparison for a new kit compared to just getting another 8gb. howcome it doesnt matter at 2400? surely dual channel/proper comparability matters?

an 8gb 2400 will cost me £30 and a 16gb kit 3200 will cost me £60. so looks like im going to have to convince myself to do that. Screw you man! hahahah, you're right though! thanks! thanks for the help, have a good christmas man

at lower frequencies like 2400 theres not a huge issue with stability etc, chuck whatever you like together and it will almost certainly just work.

At higher frequencies, having matched ram is preferable.

But yeh, as you've found the price difference isnt huge and you get the benefit of faster ram too, Ryzen does love its fast ram!

yeah i get you. just ordered a 16gb 3200 kit. corsair rgb pro was on sale for £70/$90. Dont keep an eye on these kind of things, but as far as im aware thats a good deal right? Cheapest i could find really was £65 for plain old ram. £70 for full rgb baller haha
