Upgrade Difference

Sadie

Hi, I'm currently upgrading my computer, but the thing is - I have no idea what's going to happen due to my knowledge being 1/10.

Currently i'm playing on a laptop, with the specs being; (and yes I even had to look up how to check this lol)

  • Intel Core i5-7300HQ @ 2.50GHz, 2496 MHz, 4 Cores
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
  • Screen is around 60 Hz refresh rate

I'm looking to build a PC with these specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 3700x
  • Asus GeForce RTX 2060 Dual EVO
  • Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming
  • 144 Hz Monitor

So I have been talking with my brother and his friend (who are apparently good at this stuff) to whether or not this should be beneficial in terms of better FPS in pretty much all games, regardless of the settings I'm wanting to use due to my laptop barely running 30 FPS in anything, on low settings. They've told me it'll be a "huge" difference and that the difference is definitely going to blow my mind. But then again, they told me the laptop I bought was good as well but yeah.

So the question is... will there be any big difference in terms of just general gaming?
And also just a side question - how do I make the PC load games and sites faster? Cause my laptop is doing a terrible job and I see people launching stuff in less than a millisecond and I get so jealous lol.

Thanks in advance for answers,
Sadie.

You just added more than double (if not triple) the CPU power and nearly triple the GPU power, it'd better be a big difference in gaming.

The board tho... I'd rather spend more on that. also, RAM?

Use decent SSDs, say the MX500 or SU800. NVMe... imo not a really big difference on top of SATA SSDs for just games and browsing the internet.

Yes there will be a massive difference, I would look for a 2070 super or a 5700 XT, also bear in mind that ram makes more difference now so a 3600mhz 2x8gb kit is important if you want to get the most out of this setup. SSD also make a massive difference in speed.

Which board would you recommend for this?

The ram I bought is a 3000MHz 2x8 GB, is that good enough?

It'll be absolutely fine, once you get more comfortable with your PC you can try to overclock the ram you have;)
