Solution to <1mbps speed in school dorms?

Hello,

Will be moving into a new dorm on campus in January. Been reading reviews online and they all say that the internet speed is less than 1 mbps even on ethernet. Is there any hotspot or data hotspot, besides on my phone, that is reliable that can be used with a desktop. Hoping for just about any solution.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you are very limited to what you can do with a college campus/school/government location. The only viable option would be to purchase a mobile hot spot through your cell phone carrier, which uses cellular signal, but is located at a stationary area, and can be used as a router to have a network.

Using your phone could be the other option, but doing that day in and day out could deplete the life of battery and cause other issues.

Other than that, get with their IT staff and see if there are options, but more than likely there isn't.

It also could be "outdated" technology. Usually companies, organizations, colleges forget about us IT folks, and give us crumbs to make things happen, and end up using older tech to make ends meet.

Last thing, there may be issues with the people you see online, they may have issues with their own equipment that makes them have slower speeds. Very unlikely if it is multiple people, but hey...

Merry Christmas!
