Hello all,

I am planning to upgrade from my good old i5 4690k as it no longer meets my requirements (60+FPS, 1440p ,Ultra settings Gaming in AAA Games,Also some heavy multitasking ).

I want something to last me for another 4 years or so.

I was thinking about r7 3700x as it does have 8c/16t so it should be competent for a long time ,combined with strong cooler like Dark Rock 4 (quiet  and cappable of keeping it at around 70C i hope ) on b450 tomahawk max (should be good enough as i dont want to OC )

Rams are a little problem as 3600Mhz cl16 ( which , from what i have read , are sweet spot for amd cpus ) are like 2x more expensive than 3200 Mhz cl16  or 3600Mhz cl17 at the retail shop i am buying from.

I am also a little nervous about buying it right now , sadly,i cannot predict future and dont know if something better is coming anytime soon , but from what i understand new ryzen amd cpus should be coming 2021 , and intel keeps on screwing up.

So question is , should i buy r7 3700x now ?is it worth spending 2x more on better RAM ?or should i wait ?

If ram is a concern hope i can help, otherwise sounds like good setup.

What region are you in?  NewEgg has both these 3600 speed kits for about 70$, even with international shipping shouldn't be too expensive.  Potentially retail shop may be able to get them if you chose to go that route, i'd check as they are a very good deal.

(Superior 16-19-19-39 timings, Works for most Ryzen 3000 systems but may not be compatible with all, no RGB)

(Slightly worse 18-20-20-40 timings, Ryzen 3000 Ready, but RGB)

The RipJaws don't have the "Ryzen 3000 Ready" marketing but they only came out recently, they have worked with almost all the Ryzen 3000 systems i've seen, but there is a small chance, very small, that the OLOy has better compatability with certain mobos.  Myself on a ASRock B450m Pro4, Pauls Hardware using a MSI b450 Tomahawk Max, and i believe LTT all ran them at XMP no issues (i remember it being listed in one of their builds but not sure which), only a few people have had problems with them, likely a BIOS update if your board requires one will fix the issue.  I can vouch for them even if they don't have the "Ryzen 3000 Ready" marketing.

The 3700x is a nice CPU, I don't think you could go wrong with it.   As far as Ryzen 4000 for desktops, they are "Supposed" to show up by the end of Q4 2020 but it always could get delayed so waiting a whole year for something that may or may not make it probably doesn't make sense if your already not getting the performance you want.  The B450 Tomahawk Max seems like it is a well regarded MB for Ryzen 3000 so your probably fine there as well.

As far as the RAM, are you sure the 3600 CL16 is twice the cost of 3200 CL16.  I just bought 32 MB of 3600 CL16 from Newegg about 2 weeks ago and it only cost me about $20-$30 more than if I would have went with the 3200 CL16.  Now 3200 CL14, that was twice as expensive.  Also to be honest, if it is indeed costing twice as much, the performance difference between 3600 CL6 and 3200 CL16 is probably less than 3% give or take so I wouldn't worry about using 3200 CL16 all that much.

One rule about computers is that there is always something new coming out so waiting is never a good option unless your talking waiting a month or so for an impending, confirmed release date of a specific product.  If you get into the whole 'Wait for the new product" cycle, your never going to buy anything.

I am from Slovakia , and i allways buy anything computer related from Alza because i never had any problem with them ,they are close to where i live  and when i had to rma they did it without questions (i could buy cheaper from another retailer but i just dont want to risk dealing with them not accepting and also inconvenience of availability).

3200 CL16 will be good enough, if price is too far different and thats best Alza has then don't worry about it, its still very good place to be for Ryzen 3000 ?

I ran 2x4gb 2933C17 initially and it ran great, 3600C16 is a bit better, but its not a deal breaker even with very old HyperX 2933CL17 and 8gb total (so long as duel channel)
