No, I have an old system that I'm going to upgrade, I don't really care if it is a dead platform. I just want to know if it would be an actual good upgrade

-Moved to CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory-

6-core Phenom II is gonna be your absolute best option.

So I have an old gigabyte motherboard with a Phenom II X4 840 right now in my system and I have been wondering if I should upgrade to a Phenom II X6 1100T black edition. Do you guys think it would be a good upgrade?

If you tell us what motherboard you have it will be easier to find best cpu exactly for that mobo. Some of them can’t accept certain cpus so to recommend one without knowing that kind of detail is pointless cos it may not work on the end.

That’s not really helpful tbh, what you would do if you took your car to car mechanic and he told you that there is no point in doing anything with the car cos there is newer models so it’s better to buy new ?‍♂️
Some ppl can’t afford to buy brand new system, remember that this include buying basically everything, cpu mobo and ram. Just my opinion

@Whiro tag or quote will do the trick

Steam Deck OLED 512gb , all other pc’s are gone

The 1100T, being the best CPU of its generation, carries a price premium. Lower end SKUs like a 1090T are a much better value, basically get the cheapest 6 core you can since they'll all have the same relative performance in modern titles and you don't need to spend too much money on older hardware.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

If you are looking for gaming boost, faster cpu may do nothing. I have AMD Phenom II x4 3Ghz 945. And Star Citizen can only get 8-15 fps with a GTX 1050ti because the NF980-G65 motherboard has PCIE-v2. Sata is also slow. My Samsung 550 Pro runs at 1/2 the average speed of others with SSD's according to an SC hardware matrix: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/telemetry
