Okay, so I am not super technically advanced - I can build a computer, but if I did I probably wouldn't be able to troubleshoot much on my own. I don't have too much experience with this stuff, so if I'm being dumb feel free to call me out on it.

I recently bought a Motile brand laptop online from Walmart listed as having 8 GB of RAM. Well... when I got the laptop it said it had 6 GB. Okay... so I returned it thinking it was just a mistake or something. I got a new one and... same issue. I don't know if the system is using it and I'm being stupid or something, if there actually isn't 8 GB installed or if it isn't installed properly. It's even named 8 GB.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Its 8 GB install and sharing 2 GB of system memory with the vega 8 graphics as you can see in task manager hardware reserved.

You may beable to change how much the memory the GPU is allowed access to in the BIOS, if not and 6GB turns out not to be enough, open the machine if it is pretty easy to do note the memory module part number and try and search for another stick of 8GB to add in. Just remember if you need warranty service you need to return the machine to the original state before sending it in.
