CPU Overheating

Go to solution Solved by Mister Woof,

If it's the Intel stock cooler, it can be tricky to reinstall and it sounds like bad mounting pressure.

The oem Intel heat sink has clips and a center punch pin thing. Make sure the clip is in first before you try to depression the center pin

I feel as if I'm describing this poorly but if anyone has a better way of explaining lol

Hello, I’m having a major problem with my CPU overheating (Even with brand new thermal paste) and then my PC shutting off automatically. When booting up, I see my CPU immediately rise from 65 degrees to 89 within SECONDS. All-in-all, im stumped and desperate for help.

I have prebuilt (I know, icky) cyberpower PC

Specs:

Intel i5-7400k

GTX 1060 3GB

8 GB DDR4 Ram

ASUS Prime B250M-A

Any and all help is appreciated.

Intel stock coolers are the worst of the worst can u maybe lay the pc on the side and put a bit of pressure on the cooler and see if the temp still goes up ?

Done as asked, and I did feel as though when I first reseated it it was not in all the way properly. When I reseated it now, it is most DEFINITELY in. I will turn it on now to see if the temperature rising the same as before.

Oh my goodness, I’m the biggest goof of all time. When I first reseated it, one of the pins like I expected was not in all the way. Turning it on now, it is at a sight to see, 30 degrees. Thank you everyone for the help as I leave this topic totally embarrassed, lol.

Yeah those coolers aren't designed for easy reinstallation. The gripper tabs get all warped and make installations after the first time very tricky

Similar pins are on Hyper TX3 and I done it before when one of the pins wasn’t pushed properly. Don’t have a clue why they even use them
