Hi! I'm pretty new here. I've followed the LTT channel for a couple of years now and would like some advice when it comes to upgrading/replacing my existing PC. I posted this earlier in the megathread and was asked to make a new thread, so here goes!

Currently I have an older PC running an i5 3570k that's really starting to show its age when trying to stream and/or playing some more CPU-intensive games. I'm trying to figure out which parts of my previous build I could migrate over without worries. Here's the build I was looking at building, with the parts that I'd like to carry over below the PCPartPicker list:

Storage               Intel 520 120GB
                            Samsung 750 EVO 250GB
                            SeaGate Barracuda 4TB @ 5400RPM

Graphics            MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G

Peripherals        AVerMedia Live Gamer HD 2

Power Supply    Seasonic G Series 650W
Case                   Bitfenix Shinobi

PCPP mentions how the M.2 SSD takes up additional SATA bandwidth, causing some of them to be unavailable. When I swap the motherboard out for an X570 one this no longer seems to be the case which sounds better to me for when I want to add additional storage, but from what I understand that chipset is overkill/overpriced for what I intend to use the PC for.

As for the old PSU and case, I'm not sure how wise it would be to carry those over given how they're about 7 years old by now. I haven't really had any issues with either of them so far.

For the time being I'd like to stick with my GPU with the intent to replace it one or two more generations down the line. Currently I don't see the merit in having ray tracing support whereas getting a 16XX card seems like not too much of an upgrade for the money.

Are there any red lights in this build or am I good to go with this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

New stuf: Nice! Idd get a noctua cooler (more silence and better build quality) but that one is also decent

Old case: why not if its till good and fits everything (wich i think it will)

Old PSU: The G is pretty meh, tier B. Will get the job done but a TXM is MUCH better!

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

Thanks for the reply! According to PCP there does not seem to be much of a difference between the Scythe cooler and the Noctua coolers that are on there. Could you perhaps elaborate on which ones in particular you'd think would be a better fit?

I'm not entirely sure yet if I want to get a new case so I can still use the old PC as a backup, using the old 7950 card I still have laying around. I'll have to decide that by the time I'm putting this build together (late December/early January).

Regarding the M.2 SSD SATA bandwidth warning, does that matter considering the other drives I'd like to stick in there? I'm not fully up to speed when it comes to the AMD Ryzen motherboard chipsets.

No problem my dude!

Mobo BIOS waring: Will be fine! The tomahawk max is the newer version of the tomahawk and comes with a BIOS supporting Ryzen 3rd gen pre installed.

bandwidth warning: This is not a bandwidth waring, its just telling, that when the M.2 is in use two SATA ports wont work. But trust me: You wont need that Manny drives.

Case: Ok as you wish, but 7950s are pretty old by now and cant run much games.

Fan: Scythe is good, no question. But Noctua is the leader in PC Air cooling. Better quality, more silent fans, easier installation, a bit lower temps.

Idd recommend the NH-D15 to have the best CPU air cooler period. There even is the chromax.black version wich is hella sexy and you wont hear it period. But that thing is humongous. But there are reports of it fitting (with the two fans, LPX ram and inside the C)

Ignore the section about how he had problems installing it. I swear noctua has one of the best mounting mechanisims.

You also could go with the smaller but due to super advanced fans also pretty potent NH U12A. That is the best medium sitze air cooler and those fans are pretty boss regarding engineering
