4G+ wireless routers?

AhmedIlyas

What is a reasonable router for having 4G connection so I can pop in a sim card and it will work for data?

I want this router to be able to connect to a dual WAN router.

Thank you

What Cell Carrier does it need to work with?  I know there's some netgears that work with AT&T, they're about the easiest to find stuff that works for, not sure about other US carriers having compatibility.

This will help sort who uses what towers for you: https://www.bestphoneplans.net/carriers

If you're shopping for a cheaper plan, this is a great tool:  https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones

This is one of the best solutions on the market with a strong feature set. I used this for along time before we got fiber here.

Yikes. Too costly for me. Anything less expensive that just gets the job done?

This is a good option but with limited LTE bands support, but can directly plug into WAN port of existing router.

Thank you.

Seems like at&t is really the only option I have as a fallback carrier.

As far as service in your area or from a device stand point?

Pretty much both.

I just ordered the netgear one.

Looked at the cell carriers and most seem to be on the tmobile towers unfortunately (since now sprint is merging into tmobile)

This should be ok I think as a backup to use at&t and their prepaid data plan

Likely to happen but hasn't happened yet.  Sprint is still separate and still acquiring new customers, as is their pre-paid brand "Boost" who may not be included in the merger with T-Mobile and may instead be moved to Dish Network ownership.

As a potentially alternate solution You might be able to purchase a usb or pcie modem and put it into something like pfsense

So today I bought the Netgear 4G LTE router and also the Dual WAN linksys router.

The Netgear works with the AT&T Sim I got (prepay) which is nice.

Next up, to connect it all together and test the failover scenario.

I appreciate you and your suggestions and guidance here! Could not have done it without you! :)
