Im planning on building a gaming pc and was wondering if anyone can help me decide on a CPU.  Im very new to all of this so the specs often confuse me.  I was planning on buying Either the AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or the Intel Core i5-9600K.  Both are exact same price on Amazon.  Strictly gamer oriented, which is a better CPU?  If you have suggestions that would be greatly appreciated :)

What games do you play or plan to play? Depending on the games you like to play you might see more benefit from one over the other.

I would go with the 3600 as recent games like the one you mentioned(red dead) demand more cores and threads.

Agreed. Especially if you're playing at 1440p or up then you're going to be GPU bound but if you're at like 144Hz+ 1080p then you might be CPU bound and the 9600K might eek out the 3600.

Additionally, go with the 3600 since it's cheaper and you can easily overclock it just as much as a 3600X. The 9600k also doesn't have a cooler so you need to factor that into the price as well.

Rainbow six can scale really well with a lot of threads, and red dead specifically had a problem with high refresh rates on low thread count CPUs like the i7 9700K and i5 9600K

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.
