Can I get a little help please?

I want to upgrade my son's pc for better gaming he is now playing the likes of Assassin's Creed etc but it is clearly underpowered and would like to know an order of priority of which components to upgrade first, plus what is the best value for money (not high end) options.

He has (as per screen capture attached):

i3 / 7100/ 3.9GHz

8GB 1066GHz 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz

GTX 1050

Some dodgey Chinese fan

Thanks

Jas

Assassins creed = CPU hog. CPU first. trust me, i had a Ryzen 3 1200 and a 1060(got corroded and changed to rx580) and the FPS goes as low as 30 FPS in towns. thats not taking in to consideration the fps drops.

upgraded to ryzen 5 3600, then fps issues are now almost gone. IDK why that game has so many issues with the CPU.

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

CURRENT PC SPECS

CPU             Ryzen 5 3600 (Formerly Ryzen 3 1200)

GPU             : ASUS RX 580 Dual OC (Formerly ASUS GTX 1060 but it got corroded for some odd reasons)

GPU COOOER      : ID Cooling Frostflow 120 VGA (Stock cooler overheats even when undervolted :()

MOBO            : MSI B350m Bazooka

MEMORY          Team Group Elite TUF DDR4 3600 Mhz CL 16
STORAGE         : Seagate Baracudda 1TB and Kingston SSD
PSU             : Thermaltake Lite power 550W (Gonna change soon as i dont trust this)
CASE            : Rakk Anyag Frost
CPU COOLER      : ID-Cooling SE 207
CASE FANS       : Mix of ID cooling fans, Corsair fans and Rakk Ounos (planned change to ID Cooling)
DISPLAY         : SpectrePro XTNS24 144hz Curved VA panel
MOUSE           : Logitech G603 Lightspeed
KEYBOARD        : Rakk Lam Ang

HEADSET         : Plantronics RIG 500HD

Kingston Hyper X Stinger

and a whole lot of LED everywhere(behind the monitor, behind the desk, behind the shelf of the PC mount and inside the case)

Hello,

What's the budget and location ? What PSU do you have in the actual system ?

In the UK but I'm not sure of the budget which is why I see it as a rolling project and would like to know a priority listing for replacement as well as recommended components. .. I suppose around £200 for any one item ?

At 200£ you could look at the rx580 new or some 1070ti used. They will outclass your actual GPU.

Your CPU isn't really super good either so the 3600 (200£) with a MSI B450 A-Pro MAX (80£) would be way better too.

You should look also for a 2x8 Gb of ram (around 30£) in dual channel instead and set the XMP profile so it run at more than the base clock.

But still important, what is your PSU ?

What PSU min would you recommend?

For the PSU, I would recommend the CX 2017 or CXM 2015 both from corsair (550w is usually enough). Depending of your area the Bitfenix Whisper M or Gold Formula, bequiet! unit (pure power).

CPU before GPU? or other way round?

Both are not really great but the CPU is really meh (2c/4t :o).
