Hello everyone!

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I'm upgrading my pc config with CPU, mobo and ram.

I noticed asus and intel have "cashback" sale thing going on, so, I went a head and ordered a bundle. But now I feel like I made a hasty decision.

So my question is should I go with what I ordered or should I send them back, get my money and order the 2nd option.

Bundles:

RAM is not the RGB one.

That bundle cost about 550euros and with the cashback I get 90 euros back. So in the end the total cost was 460 euros.

Now the config I really want is:

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $194.00 @ Amazon
Motherboard Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE ATX AM4 Motherboard $149.99 @ Newegg
Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $67.98 @ Amazon
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total (before mail-in rebates) $431.97
  Mail-in rebates -$20.00
  Total $411.97
  Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-23 11:01 EST-0500

This bundle cost the same amount 550 euros, BUT I don't get the 90 euros cashback.

So what should I do? I'm here because I can't decide if i should just go with what I ordered already or should I go with AMD since it looks like that option is more upgradable in the future. Is Intel worth it? Is AMD worth it?

I can already imagine what the comments section will be, in all honesty it depends on the main goal of the computer, if it is for gaming go the intel, if it is for photoshop/video rendering go amd, if you want to build it as soon as possible go the intel, if you dont mind the wait go the cheaper option.

it all depends on your needs and wants

i really wanted a top end intel processor (1151 socket) and got the i9 because i felt that i would enjoy the computer a little more even though i spent a bit extra money going the i9 than going a 3700x. same as the ram i chose, i really wanted 32gb of flashy ram, so i spent the extra $100 to get 32gb over 16gb and rgb

Long time Intel fan here. Skip anything without hyperthreading, and skip anything with less than 8 cores.

You will probably be fine with 6 and SMT, but people rarely complain about having too much cpu but often complain about not having enough.

Obviously not advocating you getting a 3900x or something ridiculous. But 8/16 is the standard.

I'd go with the Ryzen set up.

If 90 Euro is a lot to you though, go with the Intel set up. You'll still get a great experience.

"Intel is for gaming" is no longer true in the lower tiers, they only really make sense in the absolute upper echelon.

The Ryzen chip will perform better.

Thanks for the replys!

At the moment Intel bundle is going to be cheaper, because I get that 90 euros back. I am on a budget so the cheaper option is always more compelling.

So in a nutshell: Intel bundle = 460e vs. AMD bundle = 550e. Intel wins here.

One more question for you guys is: what about the RAM? Kingston hyperx vs. Corsair vengeance

if you're using intel, pick the 3200 kit you like the looks of best. doesn't matter that much overall. i prefer corsair lpx because its lower profile.

Does anyone know are there coming new cpus next year? And will they be on same socket (Intel LGA1151 and AMD AM4)?

Was just thinking which config is better for future upgrades. Obviously we cannot see the future, but do we have any information about the plans of intel or amd?

The post creator did not say which gpu it was being paired with. Paired with a 2060 super the 9600k will preform better, paired with a 1080ti the 9600k will preform better, or if it was a weird build when he/she set it up, it could have 2 titan x gpu's in sli

But yeah paired with a Rx 570/1050 it wouldn't really make much of a difference, and playing games that will favour the hyperthreading over the speed will make the amd more favourable

He could even use the extra 90e to buy a high end air cooler and achieve a good oc on the 9600k

If budget is an issue and your leaning towards the amd system you could knock off about $70 by going with a b450 board instead of an x570.

So itll only be $20 more expensive without the cashback. And i cant really think of a reason to go x570 on this build.

Why wouldn't I go with x570? But if that's the case, would this config be better for budget:

Motherboard MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard $114.99 @ Amazon
Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $76.98 @ Amazon
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
  Total $385.97

There's always new chips on the horizon.

Intel may still be 1151, but i would not count on it being compatible with 300 series boards either way.

AM4 is nearing EOL. Zen 3 might work on it officially, but it may not really be supported in practice. Or they may go to a different platform altogether.

Keeping that in mind I might be better of with config such as this:

This is really budget friendly and I save a good amount of money for new GPU.

You wouldnt go x570 because it offers basically nothing for a 3600. Unless your doing something that needs pcie 4.0 storage speeds it wont add anything of value.

You can find b450 matx boards on amazon starting from $75 last i checked.
