So i got a new/old build up and running for my daughter today and have ran into a issue i have never come across before, i am getting mouse lag pretty bad. It will freeze for about a second then move then freeze again and move so on and so fourth. Also, 2 other issues that have happened, i had a browser window opened and it just vanished as if it was closed out. i just opened a new window and went on. And then the 3rd issue is the desktop screen flickers. Best way to describe it a little better is its like the desktop"refreshes" kinda like when you refresh a browser window and the page reloads, really weird stuff going on lol.

So on to more info i have this new rig hooked up to my 4K monitor that i have my 9900K rig hooked up to. The rig with the issues is a 4790K w/ z97x Gigabyte Gaming 5 Mobo and 32G of HyperX Fury 1866MHz ram, these are the used parts in the build. Everything else in this build is brand new, PSU, SSD, HD, Fans, CPU Cooler etc. Installed a new fresh copy of windows 10 from the same USB i format all my other PC's with. The CPU temp is about 29-31C at idle. It doesn't climb to any dangerous levels while giving it a workload so my temps are good. I do have my wireless mouse & Keyboard that i use on my 9900K rig hooked up to this rig with the issue.

So right now this build is hooked up via the integrated graphics from the 4790K to the 4K monitor via HDMI. (GTX 1660 ordered waiting to arrive) So my first thought is maybe the integrated 4600 graphics from the 4790K can't handle 4K so i was going to pull my 2080 Ti out of my rig and throw it in my daughters rig to see if that's the issue. The mouse freezing gets just a tad better if i drop the resolution on the monitor by a considerable margin but still freezes. Also worth noting, the mouse freezes as well in the BIOS screen too. Motherboard does have the most up to date BIOS.

I wanted to ask for any advice or ideas in case my 2080 Ti swap idea doesn't work other than trying a wired mouse i suppose.

Thanks in advance for any tips or other things to check.

Just ran into something like this earlier.  It was a mouse driver problem.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Another could be radio interference.  If you have a wired mouse to check with if it goes away on a wired mouse it’s radio.

yup, everyone else is like - lets uninstall the ford engine to replace the starter

lol

A bit less than that.  The standard is to start with the most likely or cheapest to fix solution.

finding a wired mouse to check the driver:

cost $0, PITA factor unknown, effectiveness unknown, advantage -has a wired mouse attached

changing the battery out:

cost $? (Mouse model unknown), PITA  factor has to buy a battery, effectiveness unknown, advantage has a working battery

Wired mouse check is cheaper.  Might or might not be easier, and might or might not work.
if it does though the likelihood that the wired mouse will be tossed and the wired mouse remains on the desk is high.

It comes down to # of working mice.

new batteries, driver check, fresh windows 10 install, issue is still present. I have both towers side by side, works fine on my rig, lags and freezes on my daughters rig.

How about wired mouse?
