I have a ryzen 5 1600 (non x) with 16 gb of memory and a gtx 1060 6gb. I want to upgrade to a radeon 5700xt will my cpu be a bottle neck at 1080p ,

I have a 1080p 144hz refresh rate monitor.

Can i just upgrade my graphis card or should i also upgrade to a ryzen 5 3600?

Yes it will.  A 3600 will be a good upgrade if you can afford both.  Overclocking the 1600 could help too.

It really depends on what games you are playing, of course.

Yes, you will leave some performance on the table with that older CPU. You can still buy the 5700 XT if you want, just understand that it will not be fully utilized. I would only suggest that if you plan to upgrade the CPU soon down the road. If not, consider the 5700, the upcoming 5500, or perhaps a GTX 1660 Super.

 

PS: at 1080p you don't really need the 5700 XT, that is somewhat overkill.
