AMD 970 vs 990

Go to solution Solved by danejesse1,

This was from an article that I wrote.

AMD has two sets of chipsets that correspond to its sockets, one for its AM sockets and one for its FM sockets. The current ones for its AM3+ socket are 970, 990X and the  990FX. Unlike the Intel chipsets, all of these chipsets support overclocking, but higher end boards are still better due to the better power phase designs found on the more expensive boards. But if all you’re looking for is a mild overclock and just one graphic card (some gamers look for two), the 970 chipset is the way to go. The 990FX chipset supports 4 way SLI and CrossFire (both explained in the glossary) as well as extreme overclocking, given that the rest of the components are effectively able to handle it. Finally, the 990X chipset isn’t all that popular and is the middle road between the two chipsets.

I'm on a 970 board and I seem to be doing just fine performance wise.

Hello

970 chipset boards have hyper transport speed 4800MHZ and 990 boards 5200MHZ, will that difference affect the cpu and gpu performance especially in gaming will there be fps loss when using 970 chipset?

you can always overclock the ht
