Hey Linus Tech Tips,

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 933BW Monitor that I'm looking to replace with a monitor that would be good for gaming.  What are some suggestions for full HD monitors around the 100-250 dollar range that would be a good replacement.  Or do I even need a replacement for my monitor?

CPU: Core i7 4770k, RAM: 8GB DDR3 GSkill Ripjaws X, PSU: OCZ 700W, GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270X, Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl, Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

anyone?

Jeez, give us a second to answer, don't need to bump after 3 minutes.

I would definintely upgrade, with the specs you have the display is limiting you (not on the FPS, but on the gaming experience :P ) . What size were you looking for? 24''? 60Hz or more? I assume you're in the US?

anything between 19" and 24" and can you give me some info on Hz?  I think it's the refresh rate if I'm not mistaken would I need anything higher than 60Hz?

Yeah Hz (hertz) is the refresh rate, 60Hz is fine for most. Some people want 120Hz+, but AFAIK it's tough to get a good panel quality with a high refresh rate.
I'd recommand a 23'' IPS, something like this : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/dell-monitor-s2340m

That looks like a nice monitor would Dell be a reliable company to buy a monitor from?  And is HDMI necessary if I want a good gaming monitor?

Yes, Dell is one of the best company to buy a monitor from IMO. :)

HDMI is not necessary, DVI is just fine, it simply doesn't carry the audio signal like HDMI does.

Nice thanks for the info!  What are some other companies that manufacture great monitors for gaming?

ASUS, BenQ, most are fine really. Unless you're looking at very high refresh rate or 3D monitors for example, a LG, Samsung, HP will be fine.
