Updating on a budget from a 7 year old PC

Yud

Hi Guys! I wondered if I could have some opinions here. I'm finally updating my old PC (7 years old) and I have got to this build so far. I'm reusing my Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition cooler, Case, Power Supply and Video Card for now; I expect to update my VGA in January hopefully. So the main focus for me here is the CPU, Motherboard and Memory. I will as well be buying a new HDD as soon as I find a good deal.

1. Budget & Location

I would like to not expend more than $500-$600 between CPU, Motherboard and RAM. I might think about a new VGA if is not over $250 (or I can save up and buy a better one later). I'm Using US$ as price of reference.

2. Aim

I'm a gamer and a web developer, I want to play videogames with the heavier being CoD: Bo4 for now (which I have been running with my current build in low with no big issue). I usually play No Man's Sky also.

For Web developing I will be using Docker for virtualization, which shouldn't really be a big issue.

3. Monitors

I plan to use two monitors on 1080p that I currently have

4. Peripherals

I already have a licensed copy of Windows which I can migrate to my new setup. For peripherals I am using Corsair Void Pro USB, Corsair Sabre RGB, Gx Imperator Pro. I don't think this really matters.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current build is:

- CPU: FX-8210

- RAM: Corsair LPX 2x4GB

- Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LE/USB3

- SSD: Kingston A400 240GB

- VGA: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050

- PSU: Corsair RM750x (I know is overkill, I bought it thinking about the future)

I finally have the opportunity to invest some money on truly upgrading, I have been doing small upgrades to my old build through the years the most recent being the SSD and the PSU and last year the VGA because I really needed it but was on a tight budget. The case I have is actually a CM Silencio 352 (mATX) which I got because before I had the Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition the stock cooler for the CPU was raging like a beast and I kinda fell in love with the case so I'm liking the mATX idea.

I think the Ryzen 3600 is just fine, I wonder if the RAM and Motherboard are good choices or not and a future recommendation for a VGA if anyone have any ideas. I don't mind going AMD instead of Nvidia if there is a valid point. So far I have been thinking about getting a GTX1660 ti in the near future.

Following is the PCPartPicker list with my current plan.

Thank you!

any reason for such expensive ram? If not, save a penny with some more affordable DDR4

Also this motherboard is updated for Ryzen 3000 out of the box

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

You can spend $50 for a 3000MHz CL16 2x8GB kit, so that's expensive for some LEDs. Maybe look for 3000MHz RGB kits?

MSI B450M Mortar is the best mATX board, I'd spend the extra for that

CM Silencio 352

to N200 is not a significant change in quality, I'd spent a few more cents for the Fractal Focus G mini

SU800 is cheaper for essentially the same user experience

Money badly spent, not only is RX 570 cheaper for more performance but you should just get the 1660/1660 Super in one go. More purchase = more money wasted

I have been thinking and checking budget, what about a X570 board? would that be better? also thinking for possible future upgrades?

You have to ditch mATX and use either mITX or ATX then, there are currently no outstanding X570 mATX boards comparing to the B450 Mortar. The Mortar is also capable of handling the 8 core 3700x, so you dont need a better board for gaming (higher core count CPUs arent worth it if you dont make money out of it)

Oh, I see. Then my only problem is that I only seem to find B450M Mortal second hand, no new ones... Is there too much difference between the Titanium and Mortal MAX variants? Those I can get new with warranty on stores.

(Also thank you very much for helping me!)
