Resolution issue

Laptop external display goes blank and gives no signal at any resolution other than 800*600 it is connected with hdmi cable to gtx 1060

Sounds like drivers to me.  I’ve had that problem on desktops when the drivers were broken and only the “generic lcd” option in windows was functioning.  Many laptops have both internal graphics and a discrete GPU.  It may be the GPU isn’t connecting to your display at all.

 

which laptop may matter a lot here.
