Cousins husband is wanted to upgrade is editing rig, he has his own production company using black magic cameras and is struggling to work with the 4K and 6k files, currently working off of a 2700k so going to throw out that and get a new board cpu and ram, not sure on case specs as he is away on a shoot atm and can’t tell me what else is in it.

leaning towards intel from past experiences but I’ve never played with the high end ryzen stuff, I want to say an 8700k for the hyperthreading, or is the 9th gen i9 worth the extra cost? He hasn’t given me a budget yet so just after options for now.

thanks all

I'd believe the 8700k would be fine for editing, the i9-9900k or even the ks might help for future-proofing.

For editing Ryzen blows away intel.

Therefore I recommend getting the best Ryzen 3xxx you can afford.

R7 3800x is nice or when you can afford it the R9 3900

will be faster than intel in editing/ multithreaded  work in general

Cheap option: second gen Threadripper used, but the platform is a deadend.

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂
