So my friend got a 780 and after a few days of using it, he went to turn on his PC and the screen wouldn't turn on. I told him to take the video card out of the computer and try onboard video. And that worked. So would his next step be to return the 780 to EVGA or to newegg? (I've never dealt with RMA's before so im asking you guys :D

I would try with EVGA first. Newegg does well with dealing with stuff like that, but as a rule I try to take it to the manufacturer first THEN try the retailer if that doesn't work.

How would the process go? make a support ticket or something and send it back to their address with the reason of returning and request a new product?

The responsibility for a faulty product lies on Newegg, return it to them.
