Sup People!

So I am looking to a build a new rig (my first build =)) and I want like confirmation from you pros that this condiguration will work. Also ofcourse if there is any major changes that you would do, please let me know. The components I have put together is attached as a file below, along with 2 SATA SSDs and one HDD from my current rig that I plan on using. Also as RGB adds 100 fps as we all know, will these components all be able to be controlled by MSI Mystic Light? I have searced around a bit but I found all that kinda fuzzy, especially how to wire the fans etc too. I would be extremely super grateful if someone could explain or possible draw a scheme for how the fans, case etc would connect to the motherboard.

Kind Regards!

Do they have an MSI B450 MAX-variant?

edit: also, is there maybe another case you like? The one you picked is basically trash when it comes to airflow.

Edit 2: nevermind, that's the P400, not the P400a, it's fine.

Yeah, they do have the Tomahawk MAX and a few other MAX boards. Cba writing them all.

Pick one of them. Doesn't really matter which one, but get a MAX one. That one has a revised BIOS that properly fits everything. The normal non-max boards have a little problem with their BIOS-chip being too small. Also MAX boards are guaranteed to support 3000-series ryzen cpu's straight out of the box.

Nice, thanks for letting me know! Looking into the Tomahawk MAX board it looks like it will fit very well however it does only have 5 Fan Headers. The fans that come with the case, do you know if those are all connected to some hub and only need to connected to like a USB header to work? Or do I need one header for every fan? Same deal with the RGB headers, do only need one header for the 3 corsair fans and one for the case fans or how is it?

It's tricky but as far as I understand. The case itself has a sort of RGB controller at the top.

The 3 RGB fans at the front are connected to it.

It needs SATA power and if you want to control the RGB with your motherboard, there is an RGB header cable connected to the controller that you can connect to your motherboard. Yes it works with MSI Mysic whatever.

However! It is NOT a fan controller, it's just RGB. So you need as far as I can figure out fan headers to make the fans actually spin.

About the corsair fans, the 3-fan pack should come with a controller. Try to check the SKU, if it is CO-9050061-WW it has a controller in the box.

Now, there is a catch to this. There are 2 parts to this. 1 is a hub that connects all the fans. And another one is a liiiitle controller with 3 buttons that allows you to select a lot of options. However, as far as I can figure out, there is no USB connection, so you can't control it with software. (there are a few boards that have a specific connector for the controller, but the tomahawk doesn't have it)

Also, the controller is again, RGB only. If you want the fans to spin you need to use fan headers on your motherboard.

If you want to control the RGB with software (your only option is iCUE btw, MSI Mystic won't work with this) you can get the commander PRO, but that's imo really expensive. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/iCUE-CONTROLLERS/iCUE-Commander-PRO-Smart-RGB-Lighting-and-Fan-Speed-Controller/p/CL-9011110-WW

Hmmm, that is the reasons why I opted for the Carbon AC board. It has 6 fan headers, enough to control all fans. The J-Corsair connector to be able to use Mystic Light for those fans, it got WIFI. It is possible to flash the board with new drivers, so how big of a problem do you think the smaller bios chip will create? @samcool55

Well there are already problems with those older boards like the fancy GUI you are used to? That's gone. It's back to old-school white and blue.

CPU support is something to watch out for because there is not enough space to fit all the microcode for all the CPU's that exist for the AM4 platform.

As long as the bios that's on the motherboard has microcode for the CPU that's installed, it's fine. Just know that there might be some funny quirks because of it too.
