periodically while playing games and once or twice while browsing the web my my computer would just go to a black screen where all I can do is push the reset button. Just before it blanks out my computer seems to start lagging for a second or two and then it's out but the fans are still going fill tilt. I've tried DDU, flipping the side case fans to pull air away from it, and I've switched the line that supplies it with power. While flipping the fans did seem to help a little I wouldn't think that being around 85c would be any problem for a nvidia card. The case has a lot of air going through it, but it is OC. I used to have an AMD in there but never had this issue with that card, I think that it was a AMD ROG strix 470 that was OC.

GPU Nvidia 9 series (I think it's a 960, will need to check tonight)

MB Sabertooth x79

CPU intel i7 base clock 3.6 but OC to about 4.2

PSU is rated for like 400W with the computer drawing about 150W according to kill-o-watt

Power draw calculators are crap. What is the make and model of the PSU? If you have an unstable GPU OC it could explain the issue as well, try it without an OC on the card.

Are you using Windows 10 ?

I had the same Problem  with my old Pc .

But it was an Error with windows update and got fixed with the Windows 10 19xx Build.

For me it sounds like your GPU is overheating. It could also be an method of your Motherboard to provent it form overheating.

Are you using an Nvidia Design or a Custum one?

!! RGB !!

I think its a solid gear that's Bronze rated, got it from microcenter about two years ago, it's been a great PSU.

I doubt it would be the OC, furmark, 3d mark, and heaven ran fine, but I'll try stepping it down to check it out and I'll also check the BIOS for the MOB again to see if there something messing with the power or thermal limits.

Have you checked the fan of the GPU?

Is it full of dust?

(And why isn't your front USB 3.0 not pluged in?)

The fan was clean and I've even replaced the thermal grease, I thought that could have been part of the issue with the black screens.

I've dropped the OC of the clock and memory, both by 10 points. My fingers are crossed.

I can plug it in the 3.0 slot but it won't work, I believe there is a broken pin in the header, I do have 3.0 running to the port on my monitor.
