Rat 9 vs Raptor M40

Guest

My friend thinks his RAT9 is better than my M40, but which one is the winner in terms of sensor, reliability and software?

His is more adjustable, though some people find optical systems better than laser.

A 2.4ghz wireless transmitter seems like a horrible idea.

Yours is probably more reliable if for no other reason that it's not nearly as adjustable.

It's a mouse. It really comes down to personal preference, I'd say there's no real "better" mouse.

What one person may love, another may absolutely hate.

I can't stand the fact that they removed the side "sniper" button from the M40. I can give up the "sniper" feature, but the fact that they removed the button completely annoys the crap out of me. Just so much wasted space on it now imo

also don't understand how it wouldn't have been financially better to just use the same mold and buttom from M65 on the M40 and just not include the hardware for the sniper dpi drop feature.....why run two seperate molds just to not have the side button

Sensor? M40. It's an odd phenomenon with mice that the more expensive they are, the less likely they are to have the best sensor. On account of the M40 having an A3090 and the R.A.T 9 not having an A3090/PMW3310 sensor, the M40 wins out.

Reliability? It'll vary, but the RAT has more than can go wrong, so it'd be perfectly reasonable for that to have more problems. Corsair also tends to have a better reputation for quality than MadCatz.

Software? Unless you require particularly complex macros, it probably doesn't matter. The R.A.T's looks nicer to me, but I notice the M40's has surface calibration and lift-distance alteration. I can't see that in the R.A.T 9 settings.

All in all, the M40's probably a better mouse, but then you don't buy a R.A.T because you want a great mouse, you buy it because you want a great toy - and it is. The R.A.T 9 is probably a far better toy than any other mouse out there.
