VMware Workstation Unity mode

I've been playing/working with VMware Workstation since around v3.  Only recently, I've noticed the Unity section in the Options tab.  And, more recently, specifically with v15.5, I actually clicked the "Enter Unity mode" button from the toolbar.  After staring at the guest app seemingly running from my host instead, I canceled Unity mode in order to research its use.

 

I understand what it does, but my question is: Why would one need this functionality?
