So today I recabled my DT770. Initially, I performed a detachable cable mod and made a male to male 3.5mm cable but there was a lose connection somewhere in the socket because when I moved it a certain way, the sound would disappear from the left channel. So I decided to take out the socket to have fewer points of failure but after finishing, the sound on my headphones was missing the vocals. I can still hear the instrumentals but parts of the song were missing. I then mess around with the left and right channel volumes and whenever I turn one down, the volume returned to normal except that the volume in both cups of the headphone were at the same volume as each other no matter what I change the different channels to in the realtek software. Does anyone know the issue here? Thanks.

As a last resort, Lutr0-customs said they'll recable my headphones for $60.

The missing of vocals sounds like your ground wire is not connected.   That happen to me once with a CD player.

And I see that if you turn a channel down, the sound gets fine on the other, yep, your ground wire is not making contact.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

Thanks! I thought I might have to recable the whole thing. I'll check on that and see if I can fix it.

It works! But in the process I also found out that I mixed up the left and right channels...fixed now but this project took me like 10 hours...I just couldn't get it right.

I've put many more hours into 2 Pioneer SE-700's and have still not found the issue. In other words, You're doing better than me, albeit on an easier headphone to recable.

Oh man I don't know what I would do if that was me. I almost gave up and was going to pay someone to do it for me. Although it doesn't help that I didn't have many tools because I'm in a dorm room. Basically all I had was my soldering iron and my swiss army knife.

Gotta love those army knifes, I got one that have a screwdriver with various tips that fit all the screws I have found in PCs and printers, even the standoffs for the motherboard.

And look at the bright side, now you'll be able to fix similar problems in just a couple hours.

I actually asked the dudes at the audiophile store if they new any fix-it guys in the area to which I received a snarky, "Professionally?" and then we all laughed.

That's the biggest benefit of DIY, imo. Such a shame so few people realize this.
