So, I'm guessing this is the right place to post this. If not, would you kindly point me in the right direction? Anyway, I am looking to build a minecraft server for me and my friends. I do not need help setting it up, I know how to do that. I was just wondering if the solution I had picked out would be good or not.

I have been browsing eBay and I found an HP Pavilion tower with an Athlon II X4 @ 2.5 GHz and 8GB of RAM. I'm sure I can find a way to upgrade it if needed. I was also wondering if I needed a graphics card as well. I was thinking a used 1060 6GB or like an RX580 8GB. Thank you for the help. I would leave the eBay listing. but I don't want anyone pulling it out from under me. Sorry! Contact me if you need more info @ cjdudley06@gmail.com

I think you cpu would be the biggest bottleneck, its is qud core...but its 45nm and only 2.5GHz...its ipc (instructions per clock) would be way behind what intel even had when thins was new... Thats not to say you cant host a server on it...it would easily handle a couple people....just make sure your render distance on the server isnt too high...you can always monitor cpu usage...

I changed my mind. I actually bought a cheaper PC with an i5-3470 chip. It will run much faster, and I know Java likes good single thread performance. It only has 4gb of RAM, but that's just like $15, no sweat to upgrade. Thanks for all of your help, it really pointed me the right way!
