CPU and GPU Usage Drop Then PC Freezes

Go to solution Solved by Founders,

Assuming Mem Test passed on both DIMM's try running FurMark on your GPU first for at least an hour to see if you run into any stability issues. If you're running the latest drivers it could be time for an RMA if it's still under warranty or a new card. Run AIDA64 on your CPU for at least an hour to see if it's stable. If you're running at stock frequency and voltage you could either have an issue with your CPU or your motherboard. If your computer is powered using an extension cord, PDU, or UPS try plugging it directly in the receptacle for testing purposes. If it's stable after that you have the source of the issue. The only other thing it could be is your PSU, EVGA warranties some of their products for 10 years so check with them before replacing it. Hope that helps.

When using my PC, generally in games or Solid Works, my Cpu and Gpu usage drops from 85%+ to ~30% for around 5 seconds. Cpu stays around 50 C and gpu around 60 C.

Things I have tried:

Running one stick of ram (tried both)

  • Mem Test
  • Adjusting ram timings
  • New ssd
  • Clean windows install
  • Update gpu drivers
  • Latest bios
  • Remove all OC's

Specs

4790k

16 gb crucial ballistics sport

Msi GTX 970

Crucial mx500 ssd

Evga 650w psu

You can still ask their customer service is always very good. If not they may offer a discount if you're going with EVGA again. GL
