is the gpu recommendation overkill

guys i am a bit confused 

 

i used some gpu in a psu calculator and for example i get that the recomendation for the hole system is for example 400 watts but on the gpu manufacture recomments 550 watts.

 

how do you decide which psu you buy

I usually use a PSU calculator, and then add a little extra on top just so I can OC if I want.

What graphics card are we talking about?

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

 

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

 

What games or other software do you need to run?

GPU manufacturers usually keep it safe, after all they have no idea what other components are in your system, how good your xxx watt power supply is and really dont want GPU rmas. Most gaming systems probably only draw around 300w, that said its probably a good idea to get a bit extra headroom for future upgrades, overclocking and not making the psu fan go crazy when stressing the system.
