Hello,

I can't install windows on my "new" system.

My system boots fine from my hdd (windows 10 64bit) but it does not boot from my ssd (same os).

Then i tried to reinstall windows on that ssd via usb stick. it boots from the stick but freezes on the windows logo (with no moving points).

i tried windows 10 64bit and 32bit. nothing worked.

Maybe Windows 10 is to "new" for the board?

Specs:

MSI X58 Pro E

Xeon X5650

Are you able to clone the windows install from the hard drive to the SSD using that X58 board? Or perhaps install Windows 7 and upgrade to windows 10?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Ill try both. Do you maybe have an idea why the install wont continue?

Windows 10 sucks, that's about what I can muster.

On a serious note, I haven't heard of extensive problems with windows 10 on X58, not sure why the specific combination of an SSD and windows installer creates a problem, especially because an SSD just shows up as a hard drive to a PC.

Use the windows 10 tool from Microsoft, but tell it to download the ISO instead of making a USB drive.

Then download Rufus and use that to make the USB drive. You can tell it to make the USB specifically MBR (instead of GPT), and for BIOS machines (not UEFI). I haven't ran my X58 rigs in a while, but I use Rufus to make the USB drive like this and it's been an easy install on every X58 mobo I've used IIRC.

Oh, and make sure to set SATA to ACHI in your BIOS, it usually defaults to IDE. If you try and change it after installing windows, you won't be able to boot. I think I also disabled CSM, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah Windows doesn't care that it's an SSD, neither does the motherboard. I'm using a basic TCSunbow SSD for the boot drive on my folding rig (used to use an ADATA one) and that worked without issue on my X58 Classified board, slapped it into my X99 Micro2 without a hiccup either, just had to install the new drivers for that board and all was well.

I think I used a similar SSD and IIRC installed windows 10 (didn't transplant the drive) on my MSI Xpower board without issue as well. Also with an X5650 btw.
