GPU usage drops while gaming

I recently bought myself a new laptop (Lenovo 530s 14arr), while I know it isn't a gaming laptop it should run minecraft on medium-low setting without a trouble.

 

So here's the issue, when everything is fine I've got more than 100FPS, but during some random moments the GPU usage rate drops to 0-10% and stays there for 1-30 secs which results in 1 FPS.

 

I've tried reinstalling windowns and minecraft and played aroung with the power settings, nothing has helped.

 

What's weird is that when I minimize the minecraft window, the usage rate usually increases and when I reopen the minecraft window it goes back down.

 

What could be causing this?

 

- Ryzen 5 2500U

- 8 GB RAM

- 256 GB SSD

What about CPU usage during those FPS dips?

I'm not sure that it tries to compensate... There's way more chance that some piece of software is hitting your CPU hard with tasks from time to time. My bet - Windows Defender.

It's the other way around. The CPU becomes a bottleneck in those situations (CPU intensive situations) and thus it can't provide enough for the GPU which results with the framerate dropping. Also, does the CPU get warm?

It might be, but when I check the CPU usage increses only for minecraft or the program itself, there isn't a new process.

No, it sounds like CPU-intensive task. Though, that might depend on whether you play vanilla or with mods...
