High End Build Suggestions

Hello, 

 

I'm am currently about to purchase a new PC. I plan on going pretty high end with this build and have included a link to the parts that I have currently selected on pcpartpicker. I would love suggestions on anything I can maybe improve. My original budget was about $2800, but I've since gone to about $3100 based on a few things I don't necessarily need, but want. You will notice that I don't have any peripherals or monitor included as I already have those. I also didn't include a ssd or hard drive as I currently have a 512GB Samsung 960 Pro and another standard WD Black series 1TB HDD that I use for random storage that I plan on just swapping into the new machine. I know this machine is overkill for most things, but I have a 1920x1080 240hz Benq Monitor that I would like to maximize as much as possible, and I also just like playing on as maximum of graphic settings as I can while retaining high frames. Yes, I know RGB fans aren't needed, but my current build doesn't have any RGB and I'd like something with a little more flair in this one. The one part I couldn't find on pcpartpicker for some reason was the Corsair commander pro hub that I plan on getting to make controlling the fans easier.

That is a ridiculous amount of overpaying for a gaming machine.

 

3900X?   $380 motherboard?

 

850w PSU isn't even justifiable outside of "I want big numbers on my stuff".

 

$200 in fans.  Wow.

 

Don't need that AIO, the 3900X isn't seriously overclockable at all.  Just for looks then?

 

Almost every part is paying for something just to say you have it. 

 

Other than that, it's a great build.  Should perform like a champ.  Just pricey.

Thank you for the input. The estimated wattage is 484 and the pricing between a 750w and 850w power supply is the same for me, so that's why I just went with the 850w. As for cooling purposes I agree that $200 in fans is a bit ridiculous, but the video I saw from hardwarecanucks showed the best cooling was done in the lian li case when putting 6 fans (3 in bottom, 3 in the side) while mounting the radiator on the top. I'm still not 100% that I am going to go with the 3900x as a 9900k is certainly still an option. I plan on overclocking the graphics card and it's possible that maybe I should just get a water block instead for that, but that is why I'm asking for opinions. I certainly don't want to just buy stuff to buy it, but if I'm going to go all out I also don't want to skimp on a few hundred bucks to regret it later on. My last build had a 1070 and although it's a quality graphics card, I kicked myself for not just getting the 1080ti.

This also isn't only for gaming. I'm about to enroll in a data analytics masters program where I will be working with very large data sets. The 3900x may still be overkill for that, but that is part of the reasoning in going with that processor over the 9900k as things stand now.

Yes, if you're just wanting pure gaming balls out, get the 9700K or 9900K and OC to 5.1 or 5.2GHz,  3900X if you stream or make money off your PC is my philosophy to justify a slower (even if marginally) CPU.

 

Can;t comment on the Lian Li, was more just shaking my head at +$200 in fans.  That's more than the case   

 

Water cooling a 2080Ti brings that to over $1300-$1500 or so?   I'd probably move to 27" or even UW 1440p 165Hz+ if I  was going with that setup.  You sure you want 1080p 240Hz?  

 

I mean, a Civic with a 1000HP is neat but I'd rather 800HP in a GT-R

I had a Asus pg27q monitor that I accidentally knocked over and cracked the screen on. I sent it in for repair and ended up reselling it to a buddy and didn't want to wait 3 weeks for it to come back (leaving me with no monitor) which is how I ended up with the Benq. The picture was obviously better on the Asus, but I enjoy the Benq more tbh. Personally I like 24 inch screens and the games I play make 27 inch a little too big for my preference. 

 

Also I do stream, not for money but for friends ( I usually have like 12 viewers) and I'd like to do it more going forward. 

 

The fans could be done for much cheaper if I cut out the RGB, but again I understand that's a want, not a need.

Sounds like you've thought about and are fine with the money expenditures.  As such I have no real issue with your build.

 

Probably look into more SSD/HDD space if you need it for games or data storage, but otherwise the only thing I'd change is the motherboard.  Just can't justify that price for a board, since you're not OCing like a boss or need a billion extra things on it.

Thanks. I have also thought about more storage as well. I'm currently okay with my current setup as I only have six games that I usually play, but eventually when I start the masters program I will definitely add more. The motherboard was one of the more difficult things for me to figure out. I'd like an x570 board, it's just hard deciphering through which one will be best. As you have stated, you can't really oc the 3900x much, but I will try to oc the RAM and graphics card a bit. I would never spend that kind of money on a 2080ti and RAM and just leave it at stock settings.

One more note. If I was going to put a water block on the graphics card, I would remove the 3 bottom fans from the build as that is pretty much the reason to have the 3 bottom ones anyways.
